Stephan

I believe I have finally figuered out what the problem is, but Raidsonic does not move, and the manufacturers of the defective part inside the IB-RD3640SU3 have yet to answer my questions.
When I connect the IB-RD3640SU3 to the USB2 connector on my NAS the unit is recognised as 'JMS567 SATA 6Gb/s bridge' (a product of JMicron).
I started scowering the internet looking for problems with this bridge, and didn't have to look far.
Apparently this product product is nowhere to be found on their website (except on old versions).
Underneath I list some of the links I found listing the many problems of this product.
One really has to wonder why Raidsonic were, and still are, using this defective part in their units.
One also has to wonder why they always maintained that the problem of the USB3-connection was unknown to them and that it was synology that had to come up with a new driver...
I find it shamefull. An investment of well over a 1000 EURO's down the drain (at least partially).

JMicron sell the chip but they do not list it on their Web site as a product. The chip was announced at a trade show last year and is sold to customers but is not supported in any way. Why would customers buy the chip?

Apparently the JMS567 is similar and supported. Which means there is no reason to sell the JMS578. There should be a warning on the box that the product contains a failed chip that was never supported. :x

On this site however one can still download the brief of the JMS678 as if it works perfectly !!!

So If I can give one piece of advice, is that if you want transfer rates that are not medieval (in ICT terms) stay well away of the Raidsonic icy box IB-RD3640SU3 !!!
The transfer rates I am getting are not the 6.0 Gbps Raidsonic still boasts about today, but 0,080 Gbps (80 Mbps). My weekly backups cannot be run since they take longer than a week to finish.

Frustrated regards,
